Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls

Goal 5: Gender Equality

The goal is divided into several sub-goals, which lead to the elimination of all forms of discrimination (5.1), violence against women and girls (5.2) and harmful practices such as child marriage or genital mutilation (5.3). In addition, unpaid care and domestic work should be recognised and valued (5.4), women's full participation and equal opportunities in leadership roles should be ensured (5.5), and universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights should be guaranteed (5.6). This requires implementing reforms for equal rights in economic resources, land ownership and other forms of property (5.a), improving the use of information and communication technology (5.b) and strengthening enforceable legislation to promote the empowerment of all women and girls (5.c).
