By car

The campus of the TU Dortmund University is located near the freeway junction Dortmund West, where the A45 crosses the B1/A40. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to the South Campus, the Dortmund-Dorstfeld exit on the A40 leads to the North Campus. The university is signposted at both exits.

By bus and train

The "Dortmund Universität" S-Bahn station is located directly on the North Campus. From there, the S1 runs every 20 or 30 minutes to Dortmund main station and in the opposite direction to Düsseldorf main station via Bochum, Essen and Duisburg. In addition, the university can be reached by the bus lines 445, 447 and 462. Timetable information can be found on the homepage of the Rhine-Ruhr transport association, and DSW21 also offers an interactive route network map.

The H-Bahn

One of the landmarks of the TU Dortmund is the H-Bahn. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Center via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 commutes every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this distance in two minutes.

By plane

From Dortmund Airport, the AirportExpress takes just over 20 minutes to Dortmund main station and from there to the university by S-Bahn. A wider range of international flight connections is offered by Düsseldorf Airport, about 60 kilometers away, which can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university's train station.

First fabcing-competition on PET recycling

A total of five teams from the BCI took part in the first competition of the fabcing think tank and came up with processes for (material) PET recycling.

The average per capita consumption of plastics in Germany is approx. 76 kg/a. Extrapolated, the members of the Faculty of Bio and Chemical Engineering consume about 120 tonnes per year, about half of which ends up in a landfill after use. Reason enough for the fabcing think tank on sustainability to announce a student competition on this topic.

A total of five teams from the BCI took up the challenge and came up with processes for (material) PET recycling. Shortly before the process abstracts were submitted, the field thinned out and only two entries were submitted for consideration just before Christmas. Jan Seemann and Lorenz Rix chose an enzyme-based approach, while Ritika Kohli combined PET recycling with hydrogen production via an electrocatalytic process.

In the end, Jan Seemann and Lorenz Rix were in the lead and won the first prize of 500 €. Ritika Kohli took second place and could look forward to € 300. The two winning teams can also have 1 CP credited for the competition as part of the Studium Oecologicum.

All participants also receive free membership in the fabcing alumni association for the duration of their studies. Depending on the further development of Corona, an excursion to an industrial company is planned for the spring.
