First certificates issued in the studium oecologicum
- TU News
The studium oecologicum certificate promotes interdisciplinary learning and work among students. Current crises show that today's issues are complex, require perspectives from different disciplines and call for solution-oriented work. It is precisely these future competencies that are taught in the studium oecologicum. The first certificate in the summer semester 2022 was presented to Aileen Böcker by Dr. Henning Moldenhauer from the Sustainability Office.
So far, about 160 students have registered for the new additional qualification in two semesters. In addition, ten faculties participate each semester with 30-40 courses. The first students have already graduated this semester. Together with Aileen Böcker, Patrick Sobbe, Jan Heinrich, Lina Ellinghusen and Lisa Behm have also completed the studium oecologicum. All participants can complete the certificate at their own pace.
"Resonance motivates immensely to further develop the certificate"
Dr. Henning Moldenhauer from the sustainability office at TU Dortmund University is satisfied: "I am pleased that the studium oecologicum has been so well received by the students and that we can already issue the first certificates after only two semesters. The many positive responses from students show that we have hit the nail on the head with the certificate and are able to fill a gap in the offering. Such a response motivates us immensely to further expand and develop the certificate."
This summer semester - in addition to the predominantly scientific basic course in the winter semester - there was also a basic course with a focus on education for sustainable development (ESD) for the first time. Starting in the coming winter semester, students will also be able to receive credit for events from the ESD certificate of the University of Duisburg-Essen. Furthermore the sustainability office has applied for central quality improvement funds, which will be used to establish a development and coordination office.
About the studium oecologicum
For two semesters now, the TU Dortmund University has been offering the studium oecologicum. This is a certificate that TU students can complete as an additional qualification during their studies. The interdisciplinary public lecture series "Climate: Change, Values, Science" or "Education for Sustainable Development" form the basic module, in which various perspectives from different disciplines are taught. In the five in-depth modules Education, Society, Science and Technology, Space and Construction, and Economics, students can then explore subject-specific issues related to sustainability in more detail.
