The TU's energy management system ensures optimised climate and lighting control. The switching times of the building lighting and the climate and lighting control have already been optimised. Automatic window controls for ventilation, heat recovery systems and motion detectors for lighting are installed in all new buildings. Old lighting systems are being replaced with LEDs on an ongoing basis.

There are a very large number of rooms at TU Dortmund University. Air-conditioning these rooms efficiently and in an energy-saving manner and supplying the TU Dortmund University infrastructure with energy poses great challenges for the TU Dortmund University's energy management. The switching times of the building lighting and the climate and lighting control have already been optimised. In addition, automatic window controls for ventilation and heat recovery systems are being installed in all new buildings. The lighting in corridors, stairwells and sanitary areas is also controlled with motion detectors in new buildings.
