TU Dortmund University is committed to accessibility in all dimensions. Thus, structural barriers are gradually being removed and TU members with disabilities or chronic illnesses, in university teaching, in digitalisation and in administrative processes are being supported.
This commitment led to TU Dortmund University being awarded the "Employers' Prize for Education" by the Confederation of Employers' Associations in 2014 for its concept for the sustainable and successful inclusion of people with disabilities. Furthermore, the university signed the "Families in Higher Education" charter in 2014 and is a member and spokesperson for the nationwide best practice club of the same name. In 2014, TU Dortmund University also successfully participated in the "Diversity Audit" of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft. The "Disability and Studies" department of the Centre for Higher Education at TU Dortmund University received another award from the Zero Project in 2016, making TU Dortmund one of three universities worldwide to receive an award for its inclusion orientation.
