Administration and teaching are increasingly being digitalised to reduce paper. The sustainability strategy also sets goals for this.

In 2012, TU Dortmund University used approximately 14 million sheets of white paper to document processes and projects in research, teaching and administration. To reduce consumption, we are constantly developing the digitisation of administrative procedures, documents, information and communication processes, and printer settings. With success, as consumption was reduced to about 10.5 million sheets in 2015. At the same time, the share of recycled paper was increased from approx. 2% to approx. 22% of total consumption.

Advancing digitalisation makes it possible to further reduce paper consumption and thus save resources. In its sustainability strategy, TU Dortmund University has set itself the goal of reducing its total paper consumption by 10% by the end of 2021 and increasing the university-wide share of recycled paper to 80% by 2025.

TU Dortmund regularly participates in the evaluation of the Paper Atlas, which lists the exact paper consumption of cities, districts and universities.
