Take immediate action to combat climate change and its impacts

Goal 13: Climate action

SDG 13 is divided into several sub-goals. It provides for strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards (13.1), mainstreaming climate action into national policies and strategies (13.2), and improving human and institutional capacities in the field of climate change mitigation and adaptation (13.3).

Internationally, this is to be achieved by jointly mobilising 100 billion US dollars annually by 2020 from private and public sources to support developing countries (13.a), as well as promoting planning and management capacities in the least developed countries (13.b).

CO2-reduced mobility is an important factor on the way to more climate protection. To take a first step in this direction, employees are to be given the opportunity to commit themselves to more climate-friendly travel. In addition, business trips are to be reduced by 20% by 2025.

A voluntary commitment to refrain from car and air travel for journeys of less than 1000 km is to be formulated and offered to all employees of TU Dortmund University. This was decided in the spring of 2021 in the sustainability strategy.

The commitment is to be formulated along the lines of the "I won't do it for less than 1000" campaign by Scientists for Future.

At the same time, it should be made transparent, if possible, how many TU employees sign a voluntary commitment and thus make an active contribution to climate protection.

Overall, the TU Dortmund aims to reduce its air and car travel by 20% by 2025 compared to 2019.

The declaration of commitment is currently in the final phase. The draft and the technical implementation are being discussed with the staff councils.
