By car

The campus of the TU Dortmund University is located near the freeway junction Dortmund West, where the A45 crosses the B1/A40. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to the South Campus, the Dortmund-Dorstfeld exit on the A40 leads to the North Campus. The university is signposted at both exits.

By bus and train

The "Dortmund Universität" S-Bahn station is located directly on the North Campus. From there, the S1 runs every 20 or 30 minutes to Dortmund main station and in the opposite direction to Düsseldorf main station via Bochum, Essen and Duisburg. In addition, the university can be reached by the bus lines 445, 447 and 462. The H-Bahn

One of the landmarks of the TU Dortmund is the H-Bahn. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Center via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 commutes every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this distance in two minutes.

By plane

From Dortmund Airport, the AirportExpress takes just over 20 minutes to Dortmund main station and from there to the university by S-Bahn. A wider range of international flight connections is offered by Düsseldorf Airport, about 60 kilometers away, which can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university's train station.

What Are the Benefits of Riding Along?

Graphic on the subject of carpooling. Why carpooling is worthwhile. There are around 6,200 employees at TU Dortmund University. Let's assume someone drives 10,000 km per year: 230 working days, approx. 22 km distance, 7 l/100 km average gasoline consumption. 1.30€/ 1 l gasoline costs. Then this corresponds to 700 l of gasoline for 910€ in one year. With 6,200 single drivers on the TU, this would correspond to 4,340,000 l and 5,642,000€. As a passenger, consumption, costs and the impact on the environment could be halved. A car with the above-mentioned characteristics emits 1,659 kg of CO2 per year. It doesn't matter whether there are 1, 2, 3 or 4 people in the car. As a passenger, CO2 emissions could be reduced by half. Fortunately, not every employee drives such a distance by car ... and so every passenger can treat themselves to 700 scoops of ice cream or a little vacation for two instead.
