What Is the Point of Switching Off the Light?

Graphic on the subject of saving energy. Less light saves energy. There are a total of around 6,200 employees at TU Dortmund University. Assuming that two fluorescent tubes per person in an office would be lit all day long... that would mean 12,400 fluorescent tubes with, for example, 14 watts per hour, each emitting 8.26 kg of CO2 per hour. An average working year of 8 hours per day and 230 working days would produce a total of 188,460 kg of CO2. Help to reduce this figure and also save energy: Always switch off the lights when there is sufficient daylight and when you leave a room! For example, if the lamps were switched on for one hour less every day, 39,928 kWh could be saved per year, which corresponds to a saving of 23,558 kg of CO2. 8.8 four-person households could be supplied with electricity for a year.
