- Nachhaltigkeitsbüro

Dortmund’s two major universities and the General Student Committees (AStA) invite you to Sustainability Week on campus from June 22 to 25, 2026. Over four days from Monday to Thursday the program will focus on sustainable living in everyday life for students, staff, and anyone interested. Organized by the sustainability offices and the General Student Committees (AStA) of TU Dortmund University and Fachhochschule Dortmund, as well as the Studierendenwerk Dortmund, Sustainability Week offers a mix of workshops and information stands. Most of the program will take place on the shared campus on Emil-Figge-Straße. Sustainability Week is free and open to anyone interested.
All events and information are available online: Sustainability Week website.
Some highlights of Sustainability Week 2026:
- Sustainability Mile on Monday (June 22), from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the foyer of the Studierendenwerk (Vogelpothsweg 85): From regional products to exciting initiatives, there will be plenty of ideas and inspiration for a more sustainable lifestyle.
- On Tuesday (June 23) starting at 10 a.m., the „KreativFlohMarkt“ - including a seed and plant swap - will take place in front of EF 50: browse, swap, sell - students can set up a booth for free, and used items get a second chance. At the same time, the „Kita im Grünen“ (Am Gardenkamp 47-49) is hosting a flea market featuring children’s items.
- The “MachBar!” on Wednesday (June 24) in the foyer of the Studierendenwerk is a creative workshop focused on sustainability and practical DIY ideas. The workshops last about ten minutes. An overview of all workshops is available on the website.
- “Haltestelle Zukunft” (Bus Stop of the Future) on Wednesday and Thursday (June 24-25): The AStA of TU Dortmund University is transforming the area under the Mensa Bridge with more greenery, a more inviting atmosphere, and a stronger sense of identity - and without parked cars. On Thursday, the City of Dortmund will conduct a public survey on-site to determine the needs and wishes for the future design. In order to carry out the event, parking spaces must be closed off: The thoroughfare and parking spaces under the cafeteria bridge/behind the bus stop on the front access road will be closed on June 24 and 25, 2026.
- Presentation of the “Impact Cup” sustainability award on Thursday (June 25) with a supporting program on mobility at the Dortmund campus.
“At the beginning, it’s not the number of steps that counts, but the direction they take,” says Laszlo Küster, Energy Manager at Fachhochschule Dortmund. He outlines a three-point approach: less, more efficiently, better. This applies to all areas of life, “by consuming fewer resources, using them more efficiently, and sourcing them from renewable sources.”
To this end, Sustainability Week brings students, faculty, and staff together on campus “to think about sustainable solutions and develop concrete ideas for their implementation,” emphasizes Nina Hänisch from the Sustainability Office at TU Dortmund University. It creates space for exchange and raises awareness of ecological and social responsibility.
“Sustainability shouldn’t be an abstract concept for students, but something they can experience in their daily lives,” add Rico Heber and Anisha Kapali from the Sustainability Office of the Studierendenwerk Dortmund. “During Sustainability Week, we show how small decisions regarding housing, food, or campus life can collectively make a difference.” The Studierendenwerk will offer sustainable meals in its Mensa and cafeterias throughout the week.
