Visitors can explore the "Route Mittelalter Ruhr" at audio stations

The exhibition at the Hochschuletage offers insights into the "Route Mittelalter Ruhr" project.

Scientists and students at TU Dortmund University have worked together to develop a "Route Mittelalter Ruhr", which leads through the Ruhr region with the help of audio guides. They are now presenting the project, which reveals the region's wealth of cultural evidence and historical tradition from the centuries before industrialization, at the Hochschuletage in the Dortmunder U. The exhibition can be seen until April 21.

"In the age of industrialization, the Ruhr area - as the region has only been called since the 20th century - was largely overwritten culturally and architecturally," says Prof. Barbara Welzel from the Chair of Art History and Cultural Education, who is leading the project. "But even today - despite the Second World War and reconstruction - there are still places and objects here that date back to the Middle Ages: Town halls, squares, chapels, castles and palaces, church treasures and treasures in museums, gravestones and pictures that tell stories, as well as places that were the scenes of historical events and often also hubs in a European network."

Via QR code to the audio guide

In addition to suggestions for exploring the region, the exhibition and its accompanying program also offer insights into the work on the audio guides: the research, the participatory selection and design of the stations as well as the production. An open WLAN is available in the Dortmunder U for the use of the audio stations. Using a smartphone, visitors can access the "Route Mittelalter Ruhr" website via QR codes. There you will then find audio stations for Dortmund, Essen, Lünen, Wesel and Schwerte.

The exhibition on the Campus Stadt, where TU Dortmund University regularly provides insights into research and teaching, can be visited until April 21 during the opening hours of Dortmunder U. Admission is free.
